Mr Monkey had a quick look at the shelves where they keep a lot of foreign language* books, then went up to level 3 on the escalator. The escalators are brightly coloured so that people will notice them; Mr Monkey thought they were slightly horribly coloured to discourage people from hanging about near them.
* Of course, if you're not a native English speaker, some of the foreign languages might not be foreign.
