Mr Monkey visits HMS Belfast, 16th March

"They really need some more boats to make it a convincing boat deck"

Mr Monkey left the bridge and set off back to the stern. He came to the boat deck, which is really just a big gap between the forward and rear superstructures. The Belfast carried a lot of boats which were winched in and out of the sea with the 7-ton boat crane. At the beginning of the war the crane was also used to retrieve two reconnaissance seaplanes. These were kept behind the bridge, catapulted off the deck, and then landed on the sea within grabbing range of the crane. Mr Monkey inspected 15-foot Fast Motor Boat Number 5385, which is the last of its type with both its original hull and engines.
