Mr Monkey looked at the smaller monuments in the Place des Martyrs. One is to Frederik de Merode, a hero of the Revolution who died in a battle near Berchem, though the statue is of one of his volunteers, not Frederik himself. His brother Felix was an important member of the Provisional Government duing the revolution, and put up 16,000 florins towards building the crypt and monuments in the Place des Martyrs. Mr Monkey doesn't know what the other pillar commemorates, but he's sure it's not unconnected to the 1830 revolution.
