Mr Monkey visits Doctor Johnson's House, 2nd October

"I don't think the Yale lock is original"

After Mr Rik paid the entrance fee Mr Monkey went into the hall of 17 Gough Street. Mr Monkey realised that the Doctor had been very security conscious. As well as the ordinary lock, the two bolts, and the heavy chain holding the door in place, a set of spikes in the fanlight stopped gangs inserting criminal urchins into the house. Mr Monkey went into the parlour to read about Dr Johnson's years - 1748 to 1759 - in the house.
