Mr Monkey in York Minster, 25th February


"I don't think you're supposed to set minsters on fire"

Mr Monkey had a look at the choir stalls, but he couldn't get really close because there was a choir using them, so he couldn't see that there were fixed bench seats rather than misericords that tip up out of the way. The medieval quire had misericords but all the woodwork in this part of the Minster was lost in 1829 when Jonathon Martin set it on fire. Mr Monkey mused on the Minster's habit of catching fire* then left the quire and admired some more of the stained glass in the south wall of the Minster.
