Mr Monkey aboard the Golden Hinde, 15th May

"It's not a very fierce figurehead, is it?"

Mr Monkey scurried around the St. Mary Overie dock, admiring the replica of the Golden Hinde. He started by looking at the prow of the ship and its figurehead in the shape of of the head of a hind, gilded in gold. Despite having a golden hind for a figurehead, the Golden Hinde was called the Pelican until Drake renamed it in August 1578 when he got to the Strait of Magellan.

You can read about the ship at the Golden Hinde website.
