Mr Monkey in Bristol, 5th June

"It's a more versatile space if you can move the seats around"

Mr Monkey scampered around to the front door, and went into the oldest Methodist Chapel in the world, built in 1739 and expanded in 1748. Downstairs he admired the double pulpit and inspected the box pews installed in 1930, copying Victorian pews installed by Welsh Calvinists when they owned the building. Wesley never had pews, prefering to seat the congregation on movable benches of the sort Mr Monkey found in the upper galleries.

You can read about the chapel at the New Room website.
