Mr Monkey left his hotel and set off across Southsea Common to have a look at the Solent. On the way he examined the Portsmouth Naval Memorial, which commemorates sailors whose only grave is the sea. The monument was built after the Great War to list 9,667 names, and expanded later to add another 14,918 from the Second World War. The earlier section has plaques depicting naval battles, the later section includes statues of naval personnel.
You can read about the memorial at the Monuments and Memorials in Portsmouth website.
