Mr Monkey went down into the hold, right at the bottom of the ship. HMS Warrior was powered by ten boilers, each with four furnaces. 850 tons of coal was stored in eight bunkers outside the boiler and engine rooms, and transported to the furnaces on small trucks. At full speed the Warrior used 11 tons of coal an hour. Mr Monkey inspected the furnace doors and peered into an open furnace mocked up to appear as if it was being used.
