Mr Monkey sees the Venetian Nights, 11th October

"They're fine creations"

Mr Monkey watching the candle-lit boat Mr Monkey watching the cup-winning galleon

In 1897 the people of Matlock Bath celebrated Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee by covering boats with candles and rowing them up and down the Derwent. Now the boats are decorated with electric lights, except for one candle-lit boat to lead the parade. Mr Monkey watched a candle-lit 75th birthday cake, which might have been something to do with Mickey Mouse, set off from the boathouse. The second boat, which won the Arkwright Cup, was a pirate galleon.
