Mr Monkey in Newcastle, 13th December

"I think most of the castle is under the railway bridges"

Mr Monkey scurried through the streets, heading towards the river. He paused for a moment to look at the Black Gate, built in 1247 by Henry III as part of a barbican for the castle. Mr Monkey sheltered under a railway arch beside the keep to look at the Newcastle end of the High Level Bridge.

You can read about the Black Gate at the University of Newcastle website.
