Mr Monkey walks the Macclesfield Canal from Marple to Wood Lanes, 17th March

"I still don't know if they're really allowed to do that"

A little after leaving High Lane Mr Monkey looked down on the Manchester to Buxton railway line, opened in 1857 as the Stockport, Disley and Whaley Bridge railway and extended to Buxton in 1863. A little further on he noticed that the towpath had been reinforced with some kind of metal grid, and moments later he had to dodge a number of cars that were apparently allowed to drive along the towpath for a short while. There are no cars in the picture because Mr Monkey and Mr Rik were too busy avoiding the cars to photograph them as they went past.
