Mr Monkey at St Mary's Redcliffe, 14th May

"The memorial is more interesting than the tombstone"

Mr Monkey found the rather flat tomb of Admiral William Penn in the south transept, and spotted a monument to the same Admiral on the wall of the nave. Admiral Penn had lent Charles II £16,000; after he died his son, a different (but possibly more famous) William Penn, got a large chunk of America instead of the money and went off to found Pennsylvania.
