Mr Monkey on Peak Rail, 22nd July

"It's a nice little locomotive"

Mr Monkey scampered along to the end of the platform so he could see the locomotive being uncoupled to be taken to the rear of the train. The locomotive is a War Department Austerity 0-6-0ST built by Robert Stephenson and Hawthorn's in 1944 and overhauled by Hunslet in 1966. It's been variously numbered 7136 (by RSH), 75186 (WD), 150 (WD post-war) and 3892 (Hunslet). The maker's plate shows its Hunslet number, though it's been been repainted in WD livery and has its Royal Engineer's name Royal Pioneer.

You can read about Austerity 0-6-0 tank engines at the Industrial Railway Record website.
