The tour started in the Circus on the ground floor of the Tower complex. This was designed by Frank Matcham, opened in 1894, and hasn't missed a season since. In wartime, partrons were advised to keep watching the show if the air sirens went off. Looking up at the ceiling of the Circus he realised he was sitting right underneath the Tower itself, only Frank Matcham had covered the framework with ornate decoration.
