The Duchess of Sutherland was still using lots of water, so she had to stop at Denton again to be refilled. This time some of the carriages were beside the platform so Mr Monkey and a lot of other passengers were able to get out and watch the process. He found out that the hose from a fire engine had been unrolled down the stairs from the road bridge above the station and connected to the bottom of the tender. Mr Monkey joined the throng watching the procedure then scampered back into the train because it had started raining.
