Mr Monkey carried on walking and was soon looking at the back of the Malmaison Hotel. This building, which looks a lot better from the front, was built on a rigid steel frame in 1904 as a warehouse for Joshua Hoyle and Sons (who supplied dark blue uniform cloth to around half the corporation transport departments and police forces in the country). It was converted into the Malmaision by Darby Associates in 1998. Mr Monkey scurried under the hotel into the first section of the canal tunnel beneath Piccadilly.
