For quite a long time indeed, the river Wyre has gone through these caverns on the way to Buxton, and water has been dripping through the rock above, forming all sorts of strange shapes. One of the biggest is the Frozen Waterfall, and another is the Flitch of Bacon, which hangs over the river (just above Mr Monkey's ear in the second picture).
