The first galleries Mr Monkey visited told him why Samuel Greg chose to build his brand new mill out in the countryside of Styal rather than in smoky Manchester, and about the basics of cotton manufacture. Then some volunteers demonstrated the hand looms people used before entrepreneurs like Mr Greg decided that weavers should get up early and work in factories every day.
