Mr Monkey tours Old Cabbagetown

"I suppose you'd expect a few tombs in a City of the Dead"

Mr Monkey crossed the road and went through the ornate gate, built in 1872, into the Necropolis Cemetery. This is a non-sectarian burial ground that's been run by the Trustees of the Toronto Burying Grounds since the 1870s. The Necropolis has a great variety of trees, bushes and exotic plants, as well as the graves of many famous Toronto folk, including William Lyon Mackenzie, the first mayor of Toronto, and George Brown, founder of the Globe newspaper.
