Mr Monkey scampered down to Southwark, to a large building with Kirkaldy's Testing and Experimenting Works carved in big letters on its side. This is where David Kirkaldy kept his testing machine from 1874. It's 47 feet 7 inches long and weighs 116 tons, and it still works.
