Mr Monkey in Central Park

"Well, it's a fine colour!"

Mr Monkey walking under one of The Gates Mr Monkey looking at a row of Gates

The first thing Mr Monkey noticed about Central Park was that someone had put up thousands of bright orange banners to welcome him. It turned out that he was slightly wrong, as they were actually The Gates, put up as a massive art installation by Christo and Jeanne-Claude, who claim that the colour is saffron. Each Gate had two heavy steel boxes, holding square vinyl tubing doorways with nylon fabric dangling from the crossbars.

You can read about The Gates at the Christo and Jeanne-Claude website and the New York Magazine website.
