Mr Monkey had expected to see mounted guards outside Horseguards parade, but they'd apparently gone home and left the place unguarded. When he got to Trafalgar Square he found that, because there was free VE day concert for fifteen thousand people, the Square was surrounded by black fencing (probably to stop the fifteen thousand and first person seeing the singers). Mr Monkey carried on round the corner to meet his friends for a meal.
