Mr Monkey got out of the subway at Ribaucourt, and scampered along the Boulevard Leopold II to the Bassin Beco. This seems to be more or less where the Canal Willebroek stops and turns itself into the narrower Canal Bruxelles Charleroi. The Canal Willebroek was dug between 1551 and 1561, connecting Brussels to the Scheldt river, and allowing Brussels to have a proper maritime port.
