Mr Monkey at the Wallace Monument

"Shall we see what's inside, then?"

One of the big arguments when they were planning the monument was about what it would look like. Early ideas, like a large Scottish lion eating an imaginary English beast, and a 30 metre high statue of Wallace, were rejected in favour of something that looked a bit like a traditional Scottish tower house. Only, Mr Monkey thought, with more decoration than you'd normally expect, and with a four metre high statue.

You can read about the building at the National Wallace Monument website.
