Mr Monkey visits Stirling Castle

"You know, this isn't actually the way out"

On the way out of the castle, Mr Monkey paused at the French Spur to look down at the bridge over the first defensive ditch. When the French Spur was built, in the 1550s, it was the very front of the castle. After he'd gone through the Forework, Mr Monkey noticed a stairway, and went down it, just to see what was there. It just turned out to be a defensive ditch, with nothing much in it, except for an alcove full of plastic bottles of water. So Mr Monkey scrambled back up the stairs and across the bridge, out of the castle.
