Mr Monkey scampered down from the street into the courtyard of Argyll's Lodging. This started as a simple two storeyed house in the mid-sixteenth century, then grew as different people decided it was too small for them. The courtyard was created by Sir William Alexander, Lord Stirling, in the early 1630s. Mr Monkey was expecting to go in through the front door, but apparently you can't do that now. So Mr Monkey studied the coat of arms of Lord Stirling above the porch instead.
