When Mr Monkey studied the dining room, he noticed that the pillars around the wall seemed flat when he got close to them. It turned out they were all painted on in 1675 by David McBeath, an artist from Edinburgh. Most of the originals have been preserved by covering them up with modern copies so that Mr Monkey could see what they'd look like when new, but they left the originals on one wall exposed as a comparison.
