There were even more purple things in the next room, My Lord and Lady's Bedchamber. Mr Monkey considered bouncing up and down on the four poster bed, but decided it might not be such a good idea. In the 1680s this room had seven chairs in it, which Mr Monkey thinks is a little excessive for a bedroom. Apparently, if you were an earl or a countess you were allowed to receive people without getting out of bed, providing you had your best clothes on, so the chairs were probably for very honoured guests.
