In a room full of odd bits of rolling stock, Mr Monkey wandered through a carriage which had been covered in posters and warnings from the second world war. He was intrigued by one of GWR's railcars; based on a design by AEC (who normally made trucks), these ran the first fast diesel rail services in Britain, which was good if you wanted to go from Birmingham to Cardiff. Or from Cardiff to Birmingham. Failing to find a way into the railcar, Mr Monkey scampered out of the museum to look at the rest of Swindon.
You can read about the railcar at the Great Western Archive.
