On his way into the British Museum, Mr Monkey stopped to gaze up at the Rise of Civilization, the set of sculptures by Richard Westmacott which stop the pediment of the museum looking empty. Then he scampered into the Egyptian sculpture galleries. He was just a little unnerved by the size of the giant scarab. He didn't think a beetle should be 1½ metres long, even if it was made for a temple in the Ptolemaic period.
