At the end of St John's Lane Mr Monkey came to St John's Street. Hicks Hall, where justice was dispensed before the Middlesex Sessions House was built, used to be where the traffic island is. A bit bigger than the traffic island, of course. The Hall was also a landmark used as a base point for many London milestones. Quickly turning right, Mr Monkey scurried down to Smithfield Meat Market. He used his keen monkey eyesight to check the time on the fine clock hanging in the Grand Arcade.
