Mr Monkey in Chester, May 27th

"Well, I can't say it looks like a cross to me"

After scampering up Watergate Street, Mr Monkey came to the point where Watergate, Eastgate, Bridge and Northgate Streets all meet, more or less. This is marked by a cross, which is really more of a pillar. It was a cross until the Parliamentarian army knocked bits off it in January 1646 after Chester surrendered and ended a siege that had been going on, sort of, since July 1643.
