Over the weekend Mr Monkey went to many panels to hear authors talking about their work. In between the panels he bought books in a room that Ottakars had disguised as a bookshop, and had them signed by the authors, who were chained to tables in the next room*. On Saturday, Mr Monkey heard Barbara Cleverly, James McGee, Robert Ryan, Olen Steinhauer and Andrew Taylor talking about writing historical mysteries, Kate Atkinson talking to Peter Guttridge about her work, and John Connolly, Stella Duffy, Shane Maloney, Charlie Williams and Marcel Berlins talking about unique voices in crime fiction.
You can read about the Crime Writing Festival at the Harrogate Festival website.
* This is not absolutely 100% true. But Mr Monkey bets that some of the authors felt like it was.
The unique voice turned out to be mostly John Connolly raging against something.
