When Mr Monkey woke up it was raining, but it had stopped by the time he left the hotel. He spent most of the day sitting at the back of the hall, listening to Simon Kernick, Kate Mosse, Martyn Waites, Laura Wilson and Simon Brett talk about research, Paul Charles, Margaret Murphy, Denise Mina, Chris Simms, and Paul Blezard discuss writing about gritty cities (Camden Town, Liverpool, Glasgow, and Manchester), and, finally, John Harvey, Mo Hayder, Robert Goddard, Ian Rankin and Kate Mosse wondering what was wrong with popular fiction.
