Mr Monkey visits York Castle Museum, August 12th

"They look like tough characters"

Mr Monkey outside a booksellers shop Mr Monkey looking at some York men in Elizabethan armour

Mr Monkey looked into the window of William Alexander, printer, publisher and bookseller. He was a Quaker, and only sold moral and educational works, so Mr Monkey didn't spot any crime fiction. He followed the museum signposting through into the 1705 Debtor's Prison, where galleries about Yorkshire at war started with some Elizabethans waiting for the Scots to attack York.
