Mr Monkey visits Staircase House and the Stockport Story, 10th August

"You wouldn't have thought a wall could be so complicated"

Leaving the kitchen by a different door, Mr Monkey found a viewing gallery made by putting a transparent roof over the gap between two wings of the house. Mr Monkey was able to inspect the different ways the wall was built, modified and repaired over time. Mr Monkey was interested to see sections of the original wattle and daub from when the wall was the outside of the north wing next to later lath and plaster used when the wall found itself inside the house. The bricks on the ground floor are so old that they were all handmade.
