Mr Monkey scampered out into the space between the outer wall of the fort and the central tower. He found that there was a caponier linking each of the five faces of the tower to the outer wall. The caponiers meant that there was nowhere for an enemy who'd got past the outer wall to hide. Mr Monkey looked up at the tower wall to see the first floor gunslits and windows from the outside, and examined the some of the millions of bricks that the fort was made of. Then he scurried back into the fort to find out that there wasn't much inside a caponier.
