Because miners follow the seams of the minerals they're mining, tunnels tend to go up and down a bit. The later workings went up so steeply that they installed a chute to make it easier to take minerals to the lower level. Mr Monkey looked at the lower end of the chute, then scampered to the upper level to look at a stick-figure of a shot firer preparing explosive charges.
