Mr Monkey at the Kew Bridge Steam Museum, 2nd November

"As far as I can see all it's doing is making smoke"

Mr Monkey investigated a waterwheel once used to pump water from the river Frome to supply the Duke of Somerset's Dorset estate, which was at the museum to demonstrate pre-steam pumping techniques. Because the pumping engines used so much coal, the pumping station had a narrow gauge railway to move the coal around. On some days visitors can have a ride, but not on days when the Hampshire Narrow Gauge Railway Trust are having trouble making the locomotives work.

You can read about the locomotive at the Hampshire Narrow Gauge Railway Trust website.
