Mr Monkey goes from Quay to Sea, 14th December

"It's a very impressive collection of timber"

The boat arrived at the Dunston staithes, probably the largest wooden structure in Europe. Used from 1893 to 1980 the staithes were used to load coal from the North Durham coalfields onto ships. In the 1920s 140,000 tons of coal were shipped per week. Mr Monkey looked at the gap caused by a fire in 2003, and then looked up the Tyne as the Coventina turned to head down river.
