Mr Monkey knew he'd arrived in North Shields when he saw one of the Shields ferries leaving the ferry jetty. Next to the ferry stop he saw the fish quay. Mr Monkey saw a number of towers in North Shields. Above the quay was the High Light which, when lined up with the Low Light on the quay, guides ships safely into the Tyne. To the right of the High Light he spotted the Old Low Light, used from 1727 to 1808.
