Mr Monkey scurried along Swan Walk until he came to a doorway in the wall around the garden. A plaque with the inscription Hortus Botanicus Societas Pharmaceuticæ Lond: 1686 confused him slightly as he knew that the Garden has been here since 1673, when the Society of Apothecaries of London decided they needed a garden where their apprentices could grow medicinal plants. Inside the Garden he was surprised to find a lemon tree growing beside one of the oldest greenhouses in the country.
