Mr Monkey visits the Chelsea Physic Gardens, 29th April

"It turns out that primulas aren't very good actors"

Mr Monkey admired the statue of Sir Hans Sloane, a replica of one made by John Michael Rysbrack in 1733. The statue was commissioned because in 1722 Sloane established a deed of covenant which gave the Physic Garden a secure future for only £5 a year. Near the statue Mr Monkey was fascinated by the Auricula Theatre. The theatre, complete with curtains, is a traditional way of displaying primulas.

You can read about Rysback at the Famous Belgians website, and about Sir Hans Sloane at the Natural History Museum website.
