Mr Monkey stopped to look at the Peak Rail turntable, which came from Mold junction, then looked up the path towards the stockyard. When Midland Railway operated the line, Rowsley station was about a mile closer to Manchester. Most of this area was two large marshalling yards which could hold up to 1566 waggons. Freight trains arriving from the south had to be split up and given extra locomotives to get them over the steep hills between Rowsley and Manchester. Mr Monkey realised he had a choice between looking round the stockyard in the rain or having another ride on the train.
