Mr Monkey takes a Matcham tour, 21st February

"It's lucky monkeys don't get vertigo"

The last building Mr Monkey visited on the tour was the Grand Theatre. Frank Matcham designed this in 1894, having been asked to build "the best, prettiest and cosiest theatre possible". The tour began at the top of the theatre, where Mr Monkey was impressed and slightly alarmed by how steeply the balconies were raked. He admired the ornate decoration of the ceiling, and the stained glass of the corridor between the auditorium and the bar.

You can read about the theatre at the Grand Theatre Blackpool website. You can take a historical tour or a ghost tour of the Grand.
