As the boat slowed down to turn around at the Albert Bridge (because it isn't safe to take a tour boat any further), Mr Monkey looked up at the Mark Addy pub. This is named after a Salford hero who, from the age of 13 to his death aged 52, saved more than 50 people from drowning in the increasingly polluted Irwell. He was awarded Bronze and Silver medals by the Royal Humane Society, a Gold Medal by the Royal Humane Society of the Salford Hundred, and the Albert Medal First Class by Queen Victoria.
