Mr Monkey in Southport

Trip date : 6th September, 2012
"That engine is called Jenny, you know"

Mr Monkey looking at the Marine Way bridge Mr Monkey watching a Miniature Railway train pass under the pier

Carrying on along the pier, Mr Monkey got to the point where it crosses the Marine Lake. He glanced at the Marine Way Bridge, erected in 2004 to replace a bridge that had been demolished 15 years earlier, then heard a train whistle. Looking down from the pier, Mr Monkey saw a small train passing under the pier on its way to the Marine Parade. The railway was opened in 1911 and has been running ever since, making it the oldest continuously running 15 inch gauge railway in the world.

You can read about the Marine Way Bridge at the Happy Pontist blog and about the railway at the Lakeside Miniature Railway website.
