Mr Monkey visits Stirling Castle

"Let's go through that gate now"

Mr Monkey's scamper around the Outer Defences ended over the Inner Gate, just in front of the Forework. This was built for James IV, around 1500, but people have messed about with it since. The gateway is only a third of its real height because the top two thirds got knocked about in the siege of 1651, and the battlements were added in 1810 to tidy things up a bit. Mr Monkey trotted through the gateway, into the Outer Close.
