As Mr Monkey went under the bridge, he had a quick look at Inchgarvie Island, which has been fortified since 1490. The Forth Railway Bridge Company paid £2700 for it when they needed something to balance their bridge on. Most of the current fortifications are left over from the two World Wars. Mr Monkey looked behind him to check that he'd really gone under the bridge.
